A 28-year-old man from Schiedam was shot by police after a robbery at a garage in Rotterdam-Zuid on Saturday, 1 November, Dutch police said. A second suspect, a 29-year-old man with no fixed address, was arrested, and police are looking for more suspects.
Several masked men entered the garage on Berkenwoudestraat and assaulted two people, according to police. The suspects fled by car. One vehicle stopped in Charlois, where occupants got out; police fired warning shots before shooting one suspect. Another car was later found in a ditch in Lombardijen, and officers arrested the second suspect nearby.
The garage owner told broadcaster Rijnmond that seven people took part in the robbery and that he was struck with a pickaxe. He said intruders had also targeted his garage and another nearby car business a week earlier.
