Amsterdam’s new Brittenpassage at Zuid station opened to passengers on Sunday, adding capacity at a transport hub where passenger numbers are growing. The 17.5-metre-wide passage has lifts, escalators and shops, ANP reported via Nieuws.nl.
Work is now beginning on the station’s older Minervapassage. It is currently 12 metres wide and is to be expanded to 40 metres, with new stairs, escalators, lifts and shops.
Both passages are part of the Zuidasdok project, which is also rebuilding the train and metro station and widening the A10 motorway, with parts of the road to be put underground. The project is expected to be completed in 2036. Zuidasdok is a joint project involving Rijkswaterstaat, rail operator ProRail and the municipality of Amsterdam.
