The Football Association of Ireland (FAI) is reviewing video from the Republic of Ireland’s 3–0 Nations League win over Israel on 27 September after concerns that forward Adam Idah was racially abused by Israel supporters. An FAI spokesperson said the association would examine the footage for evidence of racism. BBC Sport reported that it was also gathering audio from pitchside microphones and setting up a panel to analyse the recordings. [1] [2]
During the match, midfielder Jayson Molumby asked officials to listen for chanting he believed was abusive, BBC Sport reported. The officials later told FAI staff they had not heard racist chanting after he raised the concern. The Irish Times reported that, according to the FAI, Idah was unsure whether he had heard racist chants; BBC Sport described him as unaware of any possible abuse during the match. [1] [2]
The Irish Times reported that, according to the FAI, UEFA’s match delegate ruled out an investigation at that stage because the correct protocols had not been followed. BBC Sport said the FAI was told no clear allegation of racism had been made during the game. [1] [2]
