The Dutch government says it has sent parliament a bill setting clearer deadlines for help to families affected by the childcare-benefits scandal.

The Dutch government said on 7 October 2026 that it had sent the Tweede Kamer, parliament’s lower house, a bill to clarify support for families affected by the childcare-benefits scandal. The proposed changes would set out the steps, deadlines and forms of help available, and align the conditions for parents living abroad with those for parents in the Netherlands. [1]
Under the proposal, the arrangement would remain open until 1 September 2027 for people needing targeted support. Broader support would continue until at least 2030, according to the government. It says a complete individual support plan would be prepared and necessary help allocated within two years, with material assistance provided during the plan’s first six months. [1]
The two-year period would not necessarily end a family’s support: the government says an individual plan could continue for years longer if needed. It says affected parents and their families have been entitled to broader support from their local council since the recovery operation began in 2021. The newly announced deadlines and conditions remain proposals. [1]
