Jon Watts has been tapped to direct the first film in a new Star Wars trilogy from a screenplay by Simon Kinberg, TheWrap reported on 27 September. Watts previously worked on Star Wars: Skeleton Crew and directed Spider-Man: No Way Home. [1]
The report follows an account from Knight Edge Media a day earlier saying Lucasfilm was considering Watts to direct one film, with a deal still to be completed. [2] Lucasfilm declined to comment to TheWrap. [1]
It is not yet clear whether Kinberg’s trilogy would continue the Skywalker Saga after The Rise of Skywalker or tell a separate story; TheWrap reported differing accounts of the plan. [1]
