Universal says it is the first studio to pass $5bn at the global box office this year, helped by three films that each grossed more than $1bn.

Universal announced on 25 September that its films had grossed more than $5bn at cinemas worldwide in 2026, making it the first studio to reach the mark this year. TheWrap reported the milestone, attributing the figures to Universal. [1] [2]
The studio put its domestic box-office gross at $1.788bn and its international gross at $3.218bn. It named The Odyssey, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie and Michael as three of its releases to have passed $1bn worldwide. [1]
Universal said it had previously passed $5bn in a calendar year in 2015 and 2017, making 2026 its third year above that mark. [1]
