Photographs of Dutch writer and comedian Paulien Cornelisse appeared on the front pages of several major newspapers on Thursday, 1 October, following her death the previous day. Nieuws.nl reported that she died from cancer aged 50. [1]
NRC, for which Cornelisse wrote a weekly column for years, described her ability to draw people into her distinctive world. De Volkskrant gave its entire front page to her photograph and featured her first column for the paper, from 2018. Both newspapers devoted several pages to her death. [1]
Trouw praised Cornelisse as a distinctive observer of language. Het Parool and De Telegraaf also put her on their front pages; De Telegraaf said her language and humour had reached millions. [1]
Cornelisse was also known for her books, theatre shows and television work. In 2025, she succeeded Maarten van Rossem as a jury member on KRO-NCRV’s De Slimste Mens. She had disclosed her illness the year before. [1]
