The pair joined Spain’s women’s gymnastics programme in June. The federation has given EFE an explanation for Stolyar’s departure, but not for Wevers’s.

Spain’s gymnastics federation ended its contracts with former Dutch gymnast Lieke Wevers and her partner, Russian coach Anton Stolyar, in late August, according to the EFE news agency. The pair had joined the women’s artistic gymnastics programme in June, but neither is listed among the coaches accompanying Spain to the world championships in Rotterdam. [3] [2]
When it announced their appointments, the federation said Stolyar would take on technical leadership duties and Wevers would help develop choreography and expression. Its world championships selection names Claudia Vilà, Almudena San José and Javier Casimiro as the women’s coaches. [1] [2]
EFE reported that both were kept away from training after the European championships in Zagreb in August and told days later that their contracts were ending. Citing team sources, it also reported an allegation that Stolyar had behaved aggressively towards Wevers. The federation did not confirm whether that alleged episode prompted the decision. Federation sources told EFE that Stolyar had not met expectations during a contractual probationary period. Their explanation concerned Stolyar; why Wevers’s appointment ended remains unclear. [3]
