More than a quarter of employees in Germany had a migration background in 2025, according to figures from the federal statistics office Destatis reported by ANP/DPA. The share across all sectors was 27%, but exceeded half in food production and scaffolding work. [1]
Among professional drivers, the proportion was 41%. It was also above the national average in the hotel industry and in nursing and elderly care. Higher-than-average shares were common in sectors facing staff shortages, ANP/DPA reported. [1]
The figures count people who immigrated to Germany after 1950 or whose mother or father did so. [1]
