Chelsea goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez has undergone successful surgery after breaking his jaw in a collision during Saturday’s 2-0 Premier League win away to Everton, his club said on Sunday. The 34-year-old is expected to be out for several weeks.
Martínez was treated on the pitch for eight minutes after colliding with Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite in the second half, then carried off on a stretcher, according to the report by Nieuws.nl [1].
“Thank you for all the messages. The operation went well. I’ll be back in a few weeks,” Martínez wrote alongside a selfie from his hospital bed, the report said.
Belgian goalkeeper Mike Penders, 21, is likely to deputise in the coming weeks. He made his Premier League debut as a substitute on Saturday [1].
