Sam Fender has recorded The Rolling Stones’ “You Can’t Always Get What You Want” for John Lewis’s 2026 Christmas advert, with proceeds from physical sales of the track going to the UK children’s charity Action for Children.
The advert, unveiled on Tuesday, stars Kristin Scott Thomas as a grandmother trying to give her grandchildren a special Christmas present. An old toy dog comes to life to help her; actor Paul Whitehouse voices the dog.
Fender’s version features a children’s choir made up of pupils from his former school and the Easington Colliery Band. Mick Jagger said he was pleased to hear Fender was covering one of his songs and praised the result.
The release will also be available on vinyl and CD, with Fender’s version of “Winter Song” as a bonus track. It is the department store’s 20th Christmas advert.
