Miley Cyrus dedicated “Jolene” to her late godmother, Dolly Parton, during a performance at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles on Friday night, speaking about their bond before singing the country star’s hit, Nieuws.nl reports, citing The Hollywood Reporter. [1]
Cyrus told the audience she had once asked Parton whether she could attend one of her concerts without going on stage. Parton’s answer, Cyrus recalled, was that she would be right beside her in a matching costume.
The 33-year-old singer said she felt Parton’s presence “more than ever” during the show and that she missed her. She also praised her godmother’s contribution to music before performing the song.
Parton died on 25 August, aged 80, after a short illness, according to Nieuws.nl. The pair last performed “Jolene” together at the Grammy Awards in 2019. [1]
