Los Angeles County Judge Maria Cavalluzzi ruled on Tuesday, 29 September, that Ivanna Lisette Ortiz is mentally competent to stand trial in the case involving shots fired at Rihanna’s home. Criminal proceedings had been suspended while Ortiz underwent psychiatric evaluations. The ruling concerns her ability to face trial, not whether she is guilty. [1]
Ortiz, 36, has pleaded not guilty. Prosecutors charged her with attempted murder, 10 counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm and three counts of shooting at an inhabited dwelling or camper. Authorities allege she fired towards Rihanna’s property and a neighbouring house on 8 March. People were present, but no one was struck by gunfire. [1] [2]
