A minor has been arrested on suspicion of serious assault after allegedly throwing heavy fireworks in Sittard town centre.

Police arrested the boy, from the municipality of Sittard-Geleen, overnight from Friday to Saturday while checking a large group of young people in Geleen. Officers recognised him as one of the youths who had thrown fireworks, Dutch news agency ANP reported. He is suspected of throwing heavy fireworks in Sittard’s Markt square the previous Sunday. [1]
Police have received several reports in recent weeks of groups causing disturbances in central Sittard and Geleen, including fireworks being aimed at people. Someone sustained lasting injuries in one of the incidents last weekend. Whether that injury is connected to the boy’s alleged actions is unclear. [1]
