Demonstrations against Albania’s government and education system entered a third day on Thursday, spreading from Tirana to other cities as clashes continued.
Protests against Albania’s government and education system spread beyond Tirana on Thursday, their third consecutive day, as police again used tear gas in the capital and clashes were reported elsewhere. [1]
Demonstrators in Tirana set a fire in a central square, while in the eastern city of Korçë people threw stones and petrol bombs, including towards schools, the ANP/DPA report said. [1]
The unrest began in the capital and escalated on Wednesday, when fires were set near several ministries and at the office and official residence of Prime Minister Edi Rama. Protesters are demanding his resignation; Rama has given no indication that he intends to step down. A parliamentary debate was postponed until next week because of the continuing unrest. [1]
Dozens of police officers have been injured in recent days and more than 100 protesters arrested, according to the report. [1]
