UN Secretary-General António Guterres has appointed Pablo Ruiz Hiebra of Spain as UN resident coordinator in Cuba, with the Cuban government’s approval, the UN announced on 1 October. Ruiz Hiebra was due to take up his duties that day. [1]
He most recently held the same post in Uruguay, where he led the UN country team’s work with the government and other partners on sustainable development priorities. [1]
Before his assignment in Uruguay, Ruiz Hiebra was the UN Development Programme’s country director in Colombia, where the UN says he supported aspects of implementing the peace process. [1]
