A man who threatened to detonate a bomb after a crash on Belgium’s E25 motorway has surrendered following negotiations, the municipality of Sprimont says. The motorway was closed for hours, and one direction remains shut while police investigate. [1]
The man was involved in a collision with two other vehicles near Sprimont on Saturday morning. He then barricaded himself in his car and threatened to set off a bomb. Belgian justice officials said traces of explosives had been found, but it remains unclear why he made the threat or how serious the danger was. [1]
The surrender took place without violence, according to the municipality. The E25 between Liège and Luxembourg has reopened towards Liège but remains closed in the other direction. About 100 motorists were taken away by bus; one person suffered minor injuries and was taken for treatment. [1]
