Hungarian Prime Minister Péter Magyar says he is prepared to allow Ukrainian grain to cross Hungary after Volodymyr Zelensky sought help from neighbouring countries to move shipments overland.
Hungarian Prime Minister Péter Magyar says he is willing to let Ukrainian grain shipments cross Hungarian territory after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky asked neighbouring countries to help move the grain by land. [1]
Magyar told Hungarian broadcaster RTL that Zelensky had also approached Poland, Romania and Slovakia. He said he had no objection as long as the shipments passed only through Hungary.
Much Ukrainian grain normally travels by sea, but the Black Sea route is currently difficult to navigate. Several ships have been attacked, with casualties reported, according to the report. [1]
Zelensky made the request during his first meeting with Magyar, held on Friday on the sidelines of an EU summit in Brussels. The two leaders agreed to restore relations, which had been strained under Magyar’s predecessor, Viktor Orbán, whose government maintained close ties with Russia. [1]
