The Saudi-led coalition said on Tuesday, 27 October, that its air defences had destroyed three ballistic missiles heading towards the kingdom’s Eastern Region and four drones heading towards the south. It blamed Yemen’s Houthis for launching them.
Saudi newspaper Sabq carried the missile statement from coalition spokesman Maj Gen Turki al-Malki, followed by a separate coalition announcement about the drones. Saudi Civil Defence also warned residents of the Eastern Region and Al-Kharj governorate of a potential hostile threat. It later said the danger had passed in both areas, Reuters reported.
The reports follow a separate Houthi claim on Sunday that it had struck Riyadh’s airport as flights partly resumed. A hit at the airport was not established. Tuesday’s coalition announcements described weapons heading towards the east and south, not Riyadh.
