UN Secretary-General António Guterres highlighted the role of postal services in connecting communities in a World Post Day message published on 29 September. The day is observed on 9 October. [1]
Guterres said the postal system has more than 660,000 offices and 4.6 million staff. He used examples ranging from digital banking and virtual healthcare to small businesses reaching overseas markets to illustrate how postal networks can help people take part in economic and social life. [1]
This year’s theme is “One postal network, infinite possibilities”. Guterres also described international postal cooperation as a way to keep messages, goods and services moving during disasters and emergencies. [1]
