Steve Haysom and his daughter Lily were among five climbers who reached the 5,895-metre summit of Mount Kilimanjaro on 20 September. Their eight-day climb raised more than £23,000 for Les Bourgs Hospice in memory of Steve’s daughter Rose. They reached the summit on what would have been her 28th birthday. [1]
Rose, from Guernsey, died aged 26 in February 2025 after being diagnosed with stage-four stomach cancer. Her family said they wanted to give back to the hospice’s staff and volunteers, who cared for her during her final week. [1]
Steve said the climb was harder than he expected but enjoyable. Lily said completing it in Rose’s memory, alongside her father, was special. [1]
