The 2026 Weekend van de Wetenschap attracted 125,000 visitors across the Netherlands, Dutch news agency ANP reported on 5 October. More than 300 organisations opened their doors on 3 and 4 October, giving children and adults opportunities to try experiments, solve puzzles and meet researchers. [1]
The annual event is an initiative of the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science. Universities, libraries and hospitals were among the organisations introducing visitors to science and technology. This year’s theme was ‘Hoe werkt het?’ — ‘How does it work?’ in English. [1]
ANP named Radboud UMC, Saxion Hogeschool, Erasmus Universiteit, the KNMI, NEMO Science Museum and Universiteitscampus Den Haag among venues attracting particularly high visitor numbers. It did not rank them. [1]
Two first-time participants, ‘Wetenschap op het Strand’ in Almere and the Sport Science Centre at Papendal, also drew many visitors, ANP reported. [1]
