Queen Máxima urged children and young people in Urk to ask for help when they face problems, even if reaching out feels difficult. She made the appeal during a visit to the De Poort church centre, reported by Nieuws.nl on 30 September. [1]
Youth pastor Sjoerd Bakker led a conversation about faith and resilience, asking those present what faith meant to them. When one participant said she never felt alone because God was present, Máxima replied that people of faith could experience loneliness too. She also told the young people that their feelings mattered. [1]
Bakker said people in Urk were often reluctant to discuss their problems publicly. He described 90% of the community as involved with a church. [1]
