Rico Verhoeven says he has accepted an offer to fight former heavyweight world champion Deontay Wilder on the undercard of Tyson Fury’s bout with Anthony Joshua in Cardiff on 11 December, but says the details are still to be agreed and he is waiting for a response from the other side. [1]
The 37-year-old Dutch kickboxer told British broadcaster talkSPORT that he had been offered the fight. “They offered me a fight with Wilder and I said yes,” he said. “The details still need to be discussed and I’m waiting for their response. If the other side agrees, it will happen.” [1]
A bout with Wilder would be Verhoeven’s first boxing match since his defeat by Ukraine’s Oleksandr Usyk in May, when they contested the WBC world title. Verhoeven had previously gone unbeaten in kickboxing for 12 years, according to Nieuws.nl. [1]
Fury and Joshua, both former heavyweight world champions, are scheduled to meet in Cardiff, with their fight to be shown on Netflix. [1]
