Jeremy and Gemma Cooper told the BBC that their yacht, the Tai Tam, lurched to port about 500 nautical miles off New Zealand. They knew it had been struck by something and then saw six sperm whales swimming behind it. The BBC reported that a sperm whale had collided with the yacht. [1]
