Niaomi Flewers set up Sen-Den at Trecco Bay Holiday Park in Porthcawl in 2022 after struggling to find suitable breaks for her own family. She has since reduced the project from four caravans to two. Adaptations include alarmed windows, padded beds and indoor sensory areas. [1]
Under the park’s 15-year age limit, one of the remaining caravans must be replaced in two years and the other in three. Flewers estimates that replacing both will cost about £60,000. If she cannot afford replacements, the accommodation could stop operating. [1]
The park says the rule applies to owners of all 2,000 caravans on site to maintain quality and safety. It says it recognises the positive impact of Sen-Den and would like it to continue. [1]
Laura, a visitor from Pontardawe, told BBC Wales that the adapted accommodation made a difference for her seven-year-old daughter Carys, who is autistic and non-verbal. She said it was the first time she had seen Carys smile somewhere new and unfamiliar. [1]
