Costa Rica’s football federation has appointed former international Bryan Ruiz as interim coach, ANP reported. The 41-year-old succeeds Fernando Batista, who was dismissed on Monday. [1]
Ruiz took his first steps in coaching at LD Alajuelense, the Costa Rican club where he began and ended his playing career. He won the Dutch league title in 2010 and the KNVB Cup in 2011 during three years at FC Twente. He also made 147 appearances for Costa Rica and played at three World Cups. [1]
Costa Rica missed the most recent World Cup and have opened their Nations League campaign with two defeats, including a 4–3 home loss to Curaçao. Ruiz’s first scheduled match is away to Nicaragua, followed by a game against Haiti. [1]
