A drone struck near the Yahodyn crossing in Ukraine’s Volyn region on Monday, close to the border with Poland. Roman Romaniuk, the acting head of the regional military administration, said the blast damaged a checkpoint building at the entrance to the terminal. He said one jet-powered Shahed-type drone had been detected during the air alert. [1] [2]
The extent of the damage remained unclear. A Ukrainian border guard spokesperson said preliminary information indicated that the Yahodyn crossing itself had not been damaged. Volyn customs spokesperson Valentyna Chernysh said the drone came down in woodland. [2] [5]
Polish Defence Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz said the drone struck on the Ukrainian side, about two kilometres from the Dorohusk crossing, and that Polish airspace had not been breached. Poland activated its air force near the eastern border amid attacks on Ukraine, while flights at Lublin and Rzeszów airports were suspended as a precaution. [3] [6]
