The Dutch presenter says criticism affects him deeply, while arguing that Nieuws van de dag needs to improve its image and reach a broader audience.
Thomas van Groningen, presenter of the Dutch programme Nieuws van de dag, says he is highly sensitive to criticism and is not particularly self-confident. He made the remarks in an interview with De Telegraaf, according to a Nieuws.nl report published on 5 October. [1]
Van Groningen also described a difficult period last year while using Ozempic. He said he became afraid of other people and felt deeply unhappy, and that those feelings disappeared within a week of stopping the medication. [1]
His main ambition, he said, is to improve Nieuws van de dag and its image. He believes some media unfairly characterised the programme around the departures of earlier presenters. Nieuws.nl reports that Art Rooijakkers and Malou Petter left because they disagreed with its direction. [1]
Van Groningen said the programme’s challenge is to attract people who are not outspokenly right-wing and persuade them that it discusses worthwhile subjects. [1]
