About 50 people gathered on Amsterdam’s Museumplein on Saturday to encourage US citizens living in the Netherlands to vote in next month’s midterm elections. The event, called “No Tyrants: Vote Early”, was part of a series of similar gatherings around the world, Nieuws.nl reported [1].
Organiser Hayley Hughes told the crowd that some Americans who had emigrated believed events in the US no longer affected them. She said decisions there still had consequences for people abroad, including through trade tariffs and war [1].
An information desk on the square offered guidance on voting deadlines and how to cast a ballot. US citizens overseas often vote by post; Nieuws.nl reported that about 50,000 live in the Netherlands [1]. Similar events were also held in Belgium, France, Britain and Germany, the report said.
