Bayern Munich manager Vincent Kompany is in a stable condition but is expected to remain in hospital for several days after collapsing while watching a training session on Friday, the club’s sporting director, Max Eberl, has told DPA.
Eberl said doctors were investigating what caused the incident and that more tests were needed. He declined to speculate, saying he was not a medical expert.
Kompany, 40, had been suffering from a viral infection during the previous week and had left some training sessions to assistant Aaron Danks. He was in charge for Wednesday’s Champions League match against Arsenal, which ended 2-2.
Eberl said Kompany would return only once fully recovered, adding that this would take weeks rather than days. Danks will lead the squad while he is away. Bayern are due to play SC Freiburg in the Bundesliga on Sunday.
