Paris St-Germain’s Ligue 1 match against Lyon has been moved from Sunday to Monday after police barred it from going ahead on its original date, as the capital prepares for a major security operation around planned protests.
The game at the Parc des Princes will now kick off at 20:30 BST on Monday, 26 October, rather than 19:45 BST on Sunday. The French professional football league announced the change on Friday. [Source N]
The match is one of several fixtures affected by the security operation. Toulouse’s home game against Troyes has also been moved, from Saturday to Sunday. A Pittsburgh Steelers v New Orleans Saints NFL game is scheduled for Sunday at the Stade de France, about 10km from the expected starting point of the protest march at Place de la Bastille.
Last Saturday, around 550,000 people demonstrated across France over rising fuel prices, education standards and the cost of living, according to the BBC. The protests included incidents of violence, looting and destruction. PSG are second in Ligue 1 after seven matches, with leaders Lyon ahead on goal difference.
