More than 148,000 people have been uprooted in Yemen, UN spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric said on 30 September, citing the International Organization for Migration. Many families have had to move more than once in search of safety, he said. [1]
Humanitarian workers have provided emergency assistance to more than 125,000 people displaced by the recent fighting, Dujarric said. The help has included food, shelter, water and sanitation, and healthcare. [1]
An earlier IOM account, republished on 29 September, put displacement since fighting escalated on Yemen’s west coast in June at 145,308 people across eight governorates. That was 15,870 more than on 21 September. The account recorded the largest number, 81,444, in Taiz. [2]
Reaching affected areas has been difficult. On 23 September, the World Health Organization said its partners could no longer travel from Aden to the west coast and faced difficulties reaching At-Turbah and Taiz city. [5]
