Emperor Naruhito attended the opening ceremony of an extraordinary session of Japan’s parliament, the Kokkai, in Tokyo on Monday, Nieuws.nl reported. He addressed parliament at the gathering, where Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi delivered a policy speech. The report did not give the substance of either address. [1]
The Kokkai’s 222nd session is scheduled to last 69 days, ending on 12 December, Nieuws.nl said, citing the Japanese newspaper Nippon. [1]
According to Nieuws.nl’s account of Nippon, lawmakers are expected to discuss legislation to lower the consumption tax on food and governing parties’ plans to reduce the number of seats in the lower house. Both are prospective discussions, not changes made at the opening. [1]
