Coastguard revises injured count on cargo ship to three

The Dutch Coastguard has lowered its estimate of the number of people injured aboard the cargo ship UHL Freedom from five to three. Two of the three were taken to hospital; the condition of the third is unknown, according to the Coastguard’s update reported by ANP.

A Coastguard helicopter flew the two patients to Groningen Airport Eelde, where ambulances were waiting to take them to hospital. The nature of their injuries has not been disclosed.

The Portuguese-flagged ship was anchored about 29km north of Schiermonnikoog when its anchor began dragging. The crew raised it, but the vessel then developed engine trouble. It has since regained limited engine capacity, the Coastguard said.

There were 25 crew members aboard. A spokesperson said the vessel may have been carrying wind-turbine blades.
