The Dutch parliament has approved a rainbow flag display for Coming Out Day on Sunday, with 90 MPs voting in favour and 36 against, ANP reports.
The Dutch House of Representatives voted on Thursday evening to fly the rainbow flag at its building for Coming Out Day on Sunday 11 October. The vote was 90 in favour and 36 against, according to the Dutch news agency ANP. The display was proposed by MP Kati Piri. [1]
The SGP requested a roll-call vote and opposed the display, as did Forum voor Democratie. SGP MP Diederik van Dijk argued that the flag was a symbol of activism and did not belong on the building of the representative chamber. [1]
ChristenUnie voted in favour, although its MP Pieter Grinwis said he did not support flying the flag. According to ANP, the party voted in favour because Grinwis wanted to express support for the LGBT community. JA21 was absent from the vote. [1]
