A painting by Lieuwe van Gogh was irreparably damaged during an attempted theft at the opening of the Rebirth exhibition at Shelter in Amsterdam on Thursday, Nieuws.nl reported. [1]
Van Gogh’s manager said security-camera footage showed a man posing in front of the painting before taking it off the wall. Nieuws.nl said he hid it behind a bar, intending to take it away unnoticed later. The club manager and security staff caught him. [1]
The painting, Easy Peasy Rhino, was valued at €7,500. Nieuws.nl said payment for the damage would be sought from the man. [1]
The Rebirth exhibition is scheduled to remain on display at Shelter until mid-November. [1]
