Billy Joel says he does not know whether he will be able to tour again because of hydrocephalus, a condition that affects his balance. The 77-year-old singer told The Hollywood Reporter that his neurologist had advised him against performing for now, saying each show was like “getting a concussion”. [1]
Joel said he must undergo a series of tests and is not allowed to drive. He described the lights, sound, stress, audience and physical energy of a performance as factors that currently prevent him from taking the stage, though he hopes to perform again one day.
Hydrocephalus involves a build-up of excess fluid in the brain. Joel said the term “brain disorder” sounds more serious than his condition feels and that he is doing well, while noting that it mainly affects his balance. [1]
