Heineken has advised British pubs to promote smaller drinks, alcohol-free options and snacks as weight-loss drugs become more popular and could curb beer and cider sales.
Review information is loading.
Heineken is urging British pubs to adapt to the growing popularity of weight-loss drugs, warning that customers taking them may buy less beer and cider. The brewer recommends promoting smaller servings, low- or no-alcohol drinks and beverages paired with small snacks.
The advice appears in a presentation circulated this month and seen by Reuters, according to an ANP report. Heineken says the drugs pose a risk to on-trade beer sales because they can make people feel full sooner, reducing the likelihood of ordering several drinks.
The presentation responds to rising use of medicines based on GLP-1 agonists, including Ozempic and Wegovy. Heineken’s proposed changes are intended to help pubs offset any decline in demand; the report does not quantify the potential effect on sales.
