Charles Spencer has criticised the palace’s response to his Diana memoir, saying it reacted too aggressively to a book he intended as a tribute to his sister.

Spencer made the comments at a book presentation in New York, Nieuws.nl reported on 30 September 2026. Citing The Telegraph, the Dutch outlet said he described *Swan Song: Diana, My Sister* as a loving tribute from a brother to his sister, with its passages about the royal family incidental. [1]
In the book, Spencer alleges that the then Prince Charles sounded elated during a telephone call after Diana’s death. Nieuws.nl reported that the palace responded by saying the king recognised that grief within a family can cloud judgement. [1]
