Dutch prosecutors are bringing Roddelpraat presenters Jan Roos and Dennis Schouten before a court in Groningen on 13 October, over alleged insults against two women from the city. The women filed complaints about remarks made in episodes of the online programme on 16 and 23 October 2024, including comments about their appearance and hygiene. [1] [2]
The Public Prosecution Service described the remarks as degrading and sexist, and said they reflected misogyny. It argued that verbal aggression towards women by public figures can contribute to a culture in which more serious violence becomes possible. [1] [2]
Roos and Schouten said the controversy was overblown and invoked artistic freedom. Roos called the remarks cabaret, while acknowledging that they were not tasteful. [1]
