Frans Timmermans will become chair of the supervisory board of the Dutch Society for the Protection of Animals on 1 January 2027, after the organisation’s members’ council approved his nomination over the weekend, it said. [1]
Timmermans, the former leader of GroenLinks-PvdA, said he was “particularly honoured” by the appointment. He said he hoped to contribute to the organisation’s mission of protecting animals and promoting their interests in the Netherlands. [1]
He will succeed Karin Broekhuizen, whose second term ends at the close of this year. The organisation’s managing director, Ellen Bien, praised Timmermans’s record and said he had consistently worked to support vulnerable people in society. [1]
