Ukraine’s president says the US has proposed a meeting with Trump and Putin, but neither Washington nor Moscow has confirmed one.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Saturday that the United States was working on a possible meeting between him, US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin. He said neither Washington nor Moscow had confirmed it, leaving the proposed summit far from settled. [1] [2]
“The US is working on this. They have a proposal for a trilateral meeting,” Zelenskyy told journalists in an online exchange, according to Ukrinform. The quotation is translated from Ukrainian. [1]
Zelenskyy named the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, the US during the G20 summit, and a European country as possible locations. He gave no agreed venue or date. [1] [2]
A meeting in the US would also face a previously stated Russian objection: European Pravda reported that the Kremlin said in September that Zelenskyy and Putin could not meet in Miami, and that Putin was willing to meet him only in Moscow. Zelenskyy’s latest remarks leave open whether Moscow has responded to any proposal; a lack of confirmation does not mean it has given no response. [2] [1]
