Netflix has taken an option on the film rights to Anjet Daanje’s novel *The Remembered Soldier*, giving the streaming company the chance to produce an adaptation if a screenplay is completed. American director Olivia Newman is developing the screenplay, the novel’s Dutch publisher, Uitgeverij Passage, said on Thursday. [1]
Newman, whose credits include *Where the Crawdads Sing*, has spoken with Daanje about her plans, the publisher said. Netflix has not yet committed to making the film, and no release date has been announced.
First published in Dutch in 2019, the novel appeared in English as *The Remembered Soldier* in 2025. Passage said international reviews and nominations for several literary prizes helped draw Newman’s attention to the book. Daanje previously wrote scripts for the television series *The Secrets of Barslet*; her publisher said she was concentrating on a new novel and did not wish to comment on the film plans. [1]
