Veere says it may grant one exemption per settlement for organised fireworks, but applications can still be rejected and no display is guaranteed.
Review information is loading.
The Dutch municipality of Veere is willing to grant exemptions allowing organised fireworks displays during the coming New Year celebrations, despite a national ban on consumer fireworks. Whether any displays go ahead is not yet clear: applications can still be refused, and nobody may apply. [1]
Veere says there can be no more than one exemption per settlement. The municipality cited residents who see fireworks as a festive tradition, alongside others who experience nuisance or would prefer not to see them. [1]
More than 200 Dutch municipalities have decided not to issue exemptions, while about 30 are willing to allow fireworks under conditions, according to the report. Veere had previously left the possibility open; most other municipalities in Zeeland have ruled it out, with Tholen the exception. [1]
The national ban applies to consumer fireworks, though small items such as sparklers remain permitted. To seek an exemption, organisers must form an association or foundation and have a connection to the locality. They may hold up to 200kg of fireworks and must provide a safety plan and two trained supervisors. Organisers must also be sober, and spectators must keep the required distance for each type of firework, with a minimum of 15 metres. [1]
