Netherlands defender Denzel Dumfries and coach Xavi Hernández favour shorter international breaks ahead of Sunday’s Nations League match against Serbia.

Speaking at a press conference in Zeist on Saturday, Netherlands defender Denzel Dumfries said he preferred the previous pattern of shorter international breaks. Coach Xavi Hernández also considered UEFA’s longer window, with four matches in about a week and a half, unsuccessful, ANP reported. [1]
Dumfries said he was not in favour of such a long break and had found the shorter ones more pleasant, although players were used to busy schedules at their clubs. [1]
Under the previous autumn schedule, national teams played two matches in each of three breaks: September, October and November. This autumn’s six fixtures are split between a four-match window in late September and early October and a two-match window in November. The longer window interrupts club football for two weekends, rather than one during each shorter break. [1]
The Netherlands face Serbia on Sunday, with a further two-match international window scheduled for November. [1]
