ABN AMRO has taken its bookkeeping service for businesses offline after an external supplier reported a possible security incident. The bank is investigating whether customer data were affected; it has not established that any information was leaked.
The service, called Boekhouden, has been unavailable since Wednesday, according to ANP. It is used by entrepreneurs to process invoices and other records. ABN AMRO says other systems and services were not affected and that a limited number of users were affected by the outage.
The disruption coincided with the deadline for submitting VAT returns for the third quarter. The bank did not expect the service to be restored in time, but the Dutch tax authority allows a seven-day grace period for filing.
A bank spokesperson said customers would be contacted personally if the investigation found their data had been involved. ABN AMRO had already announced that it would stop offering the bookkeeping service from 1 January 2027, saying more extensive alternatives were available.
