West Ham United have sacked head coach Nuno Espirito Santo after a poor start to their first season back in the Championship, with the club eighth in the table and six points behind leaders Middlesbrough.
Nuno, 52, had been in charge since September 2025 and oversaw West Ham’s relegation from the Premier League last season. The club have won two of their past six league matches and lost their last two at home: 3-2 to Southampton and 3-1 to West Bromwich Albion on Saturday.
Assistant head coach Rui Pedro Silva and goalkeeper coach Rui Barbosa have also left. Mark Noble, Steve Potts and Gerard Prenderville will take temporary charge for Wednesday’s trip to Cardiff City.
West Ham said its board had carried out a “thorough review” of the season’s start and believed a change was necessary to keep the club’s objectives and expectations on track. The club said the search for a new head coach was under way.
