Zelensky says Ukraine needs more than the €45bn already planned from an EU loan for 2027. The bloc has not decided whether to provide the extra funding.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky asked EU leaders at a summit on Friday for at least €70bn in additional support for 2027. He estimated that the war would cost €155bn next year and said Ukraine needed the extra money for defence, weapons and resilience. He called the request realistic and said the support would help Ukraine hold back Russia. [1]
The Dutch news agency ANP, whose report was published by Nieuws.nl, says the EU has already approved a €90bn loan for Ukraine covering 2026 and 2027. Of that, €45bn is due to be disbursed this year and another €45bn is planned for next year. Zelensky said the amount planned for 2027 would not be enough. It remains unclear whether the EU will agree to his request or how any additional support would be provided. [1]
