Motorists and motorcyclists in South Holland are set to pay more vehicle tax in 2027. For car owners, the annual increase is just over €2 for a compact city car, more than €6 for a mid-sized car and nearly €11 for an SUV. ANP gave no motorcycle-specific figure. [1]
The increase concerns the *opcenten*, the portion of Dutch vehicle tax that goes to the province. South Holland expects to collect about €510 million from it in 2027, compared with about €490 million in 2026. ANP says the province has the highest surcharge in the Netherlands and that its rate has risen for years. [1]
A large share of the surcharge revenue is intended for the management, maintenance and renewal of provincial roads, bridges, locks and waterways. [1]
